Dr. Tamara Kalubowila has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital. The official letter of appointment was presented to Dr. Kalubowila by Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, at the Ministry premises on July 29.

 

Dr. Kalubowila brings with him an extensive background in the medical field and healthcare administration. He began his academic journey at Royal College, Colombo, where he completed his Advanced Level studies. In 1986, he obtained his MBBS degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and entered the medical profession.

He commenced his career at the Panadura Hospital and went on to serve in a wide range of roles, including Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS), Medical Officer of Maternal and Child Health (MO/MCH), and Epidemiological Medical Officer. He also held the position of Medical Officer in Charge of several institutions. His transition into medical administration saw him serve as the Medical Superintendent of Horana Hospital.

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media, in an official statement, expressed confidence in Dr. Kalubowila’s leadership and administrative expertise, stating that his experience would be invaluable in steering Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital toward greater excellence in patient care and institutional development.

Dr. Kalubowila's appointment marks a significant milestone in his decades-long medical career, and stakeholders in the healthcare sector have welcomed the move as a step forward in strengthening Sri Lanka’s public health infrastructure.
