Majority of Easter Attack Victim Fund Disbursed

Out of the Rs. 311 million allocated to the Easter Attack Victim Fund, a total of Rs. 310.2 million has been disbursed among 663 individuals affected by the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks and their families, according to the Office for Reparations (OR).

As per official data, only Rs. 581,413.80 remains in the fund as of May 21 this year.

The Office reports that over Rs. 97.5 million was granted to 422 individuals as compensation for the death of a family member. Additionally, Rs. 98.4 million was allocated to support 182 victims who sustained injuries and required medical care.

In the education sector, Rs. 107.8 million was provided to 51 students to support their secondary education, while Rs. 4 million was granted to six individuals pursuing tertiary education. Furthermore, Rs. 2.4 million was distributed among two elderly persons affected by the attack.

The fund, managed under several support categories, was aimed at providing relief and long-term assistance to victims and their families following one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka’s history.
