The Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union has decided to call off the 48-hour token strike that was scheduled to begin at midnight today (July 29).

According to union sources, the decision was reached following a round of discussions held earlier today between representatives of the trade union and officials from the Ministry of Transport, including the Secretary to the Ministry.

The union had previously announced the strike in protest over several unresolved issues affecting engine drivers, including operational conditions and administrative concerns. However, after what has been described as a “positive and constructive dialogue,” the union confirmed that the strike will no longer take place.

Train services will therefore continue as scheduled, bringing relief to thousands of commuters who rely on daily railway transport.

Further discussions between the union and ministry officials are expected to continue in the coming weeks to resolve the remaining concerns.
