Sri Lanka Police have revealed that a total of 1,355 individuals have lost their lives in road accidents during the year 2025 up to now.

According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Frederick Wootler, the previous year (2024) saw a staggering 2,521 road accident-related deaths across the island, highlighting the persistent threat posed by reckless driving and poor road discipline.

SSP Wootler stressed that the situation demands urgent and collective action, noting that public cooperation is critical to reducing the rising toll of fatal road accidents that occur daily on Sri Lankan roads.

Authorities continue to urge all road users to follow traffic rules, drive responsibly, and be vigilant, especially during peak hours and adverse weather conditions. Special operations by Traffic Police are also being carried out to curb speeding, drunk driving, and other violations.

The Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying awareness campaigns and enforcement operations to ensure road safety for all citizens.
