The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast warning of several spells of showers expected on 27th July 2025, particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts

In addition to the rainy conditions, fairly strong winds reaching up to 50 kmph are expected at times, especially over the western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central provinces, and in areas including Puttalam, Trincomalee, and Hambantota districts.

Marine Weather Forecast for the Next 24 Hours

Rain Conditions: Showers are likely in several sea areas, particularly off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Wind Conditions: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with average speeds ranging between 30-40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas from:

Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota

Kalpitiya to Vakarai via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, and Trincomalee

Sea Conditions: These same sea areas may turn rough at times, prompting a cautionary note for fishermen and naval operations.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions, especially those living in hilly regions prone to strong winds and those engaged in coastal and marine activities.
