President Anura Dissanayake has officially nominated Justice Preethi Padman Surasena for the position of Chief Justice, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa confirmed today.

 Speaking to the media, Minister Jayatissa stated, “The President has submitted Preethi Padman Surasena’s name to the Constitutional Council for appointment as Chief Justice.”

The Constitutional Council is expected to review and approve the nomination in accordance with constitutional procedures.

Justice Surasena is a senior member of the judiciary with a distinguished career, having served in key positions including as a Justice of the Supreme Court. If approved, he will succeed Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, who is due to retire.
