Upper Kotmale Reservoir Sluice Gate Opened Due to Heavy Rainfall

One sluice gate of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir opened following heavy rainfall in its catchment areas. The sluice gate was opened early this morning (20 July), according to reservoir authorities.
The Disaster Management Centre has cautioned that if the current rainfall persists, the remaining sluice gates may open automatically due to rising water levels.
As a precautionary measure, residents living along the banks of the Kotmale Oya have been urged to remain vigilant for possible rising water levels and flash floods.
