The Kandy Zonal Education Office has announced a special school holiday schedule due to the heavy traffic congestion and logistical challenges expected during the annual Esala Perahera.

Accordingly, all schools in the Kandy zone will be closed for the second term break from July 29 to August 4. This decision was taken to facilitate smoother conduct of the Esala Perahera and ensure the safety and convenience of students, staff, and parents.

The Esala Perahera, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic religious and cultural festivals, is scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 9, attracting thousands of local and international visitors to the city of Kandy.

Sinhala and Tamil government and government-assisted schools in the Kandy zone will observe their second-term holidays from August 8 to August 17.

Muslim schools in the zone will have their holidays from August 20 to August 24.

Authorities urge the public to plan travel and educational activities accordingly during this period.
