Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendige has expressed grave concern over a suspected organized effort behind a recent spate of wild elephant shootings.

Addressing the media, the Minister revealed that nine elephants have suffered gunshot injuries in recent weeks, prompting fears of coordinated attacks on Sri Lanka’s protected wildlife.

A formal complaint is set to be filed with the CID to investigate the possible involvement of organized groups. Veterinary teams are currently treating the injured elephants, while wildlife officials continue to monitor their recovery.
