The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has announced it will take strict action against officials who fail to implement its recommendations.
In a statement, the Commission emphasized that all public officials are legally obligated to act on its directives. It has formally informed ministry secretaries, provincial leaders, and heads of departments and institutions of this requirement.
The Commission also stressed that these entities must notify it of steps taken within the timeframe specified in the Human Rights Commission Act.
Responding to claims that some recommendations remain unimplemented due to appeals, the HRCSL clarified that the law provides no avenue for such appeals, and failure to comply on this basis is unlawful.
The Commission warned that officials and institutions ignoring its recommendations will be held accountable for any resulting consequences.
