
Minister Vijitha Herath Meets Governor of Malacca

The meeting, held in a spirit of friendship and mutual respect, focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, especially in areas of tourism, education, and humanitarian assistance.
Minister Herath expressed Sri Lanka’s sincere gratitude to the Governor and the Government of Malacca for their continued goodwill and support most notably, the generous donation of land for housing projects and a hospital aimed at supporting communities affected by the 2004 tsunami.
Discussions between the two dignitaries also emphasized expanding cooperation in the tourism sector. Minister Herath highlighted the shared historical and cultural links between Sri Lanka and Malacca as a foundation for strengthening tourism exchanges and launching joint initiatives to improve connectivity between the two destinations.
In a significant development, Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam agreed to increase the number of Sri Lankan students benefiting from scholarships awarded under the Governor’s Foundation for international students. He recognized the importance of educational exchanges in building strong people-to-people ties between the two regions.
Reaffirming Malacca’s longstanding bond with Sri Lanka, Governor Rustam assured his continued commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and nurturing the historical friendship between the two countries.
Minister Herath’s visit and the productive engagement with Malacca leadership are expected to pave the way for greater collaboration in the years to come.
