
6.7-magnitude earthquake strikes Indonesia

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia on Monday (July 14), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The USGS said the earthquake’s epicentre was 179 kilometres west of Tual. The city is around 3,000 kms east of Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on the Maluku Islands.
There has not been any alert of tsunami so far. There have been no reports of loss of life or property so far.
Even though a 6.7-magnitude earthquake is considered major, AFP reported Indonesia’s geophysics agency as saying that the earthquake “did not have the potential to cause a tsunami”.
