Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake, arrested in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 rifle in Havelock Town, has been granted bail by the Colombo High Court.

High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne ordered Dissanayake's release on a cash bail of Rs. 250,000 and two surety bails of Rs. 5 million each, with sureties required to be Colombo residents. A travel ban was imposed, and his passport was surrendered to the court.

Despite objections from the Attorney General’s representative, the judge ruled that bail was appropriate as the suspect’s possession of the firearm had not yet been confirmed.

The TID arrested Dissanayake on May 23, following the May 20 discovery of the rifle hidden in a woman’s travel bag at a luxury apartment complex. Investigations are ongoing.
