Power and Energy Minister, Engineer Kumara Jayakody, recently inspected the ongoing construction of the Moragolla Hydropower Project and the new Kothmale-Polpitiya transmission line.

The Moragolla project, designed to stabilize electricity supply during peak hours (7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.), is expected to be connected to the national grid by December this year. The dam, spanning 237 meters in length and 37 meters in height, channels water via a 3-kilometer underground tunnel to operate two turbines, each generating 15.1 megawatts.

The inspection covered both the near-complete hydropower plant and the associated transmission infrastructure. Minister Jayakody paid close attention to the work carried out by CEB engineers, local specialists, and contractors.

Project Director Gamunu Ranasinghe and CEB Deputy General Manager Nishantha Garusinghe were among the officials present during the visit.
