A tourist lodge under construction in the Kandakumbura area of the Ella Divisional Secretariat has been completely destroyed by a fire that broke out near a forested area, according to police reports.

The fire, which erupted amidst dry weather and strong winds, spread rapidly through the surrounding vegetation and engulfed the lodge in flames. Authorities confirmed that the building was fully consumed by the blaze before it could be contained.

Fortunately, no individuals were injured in the incident.

The Bandarawela Fire Brigade, in coordination with the Ella Police and forest conservation officers, responded swiftly to the scene and worked collectively to bring the fire under control, preventing further damage to the nearby forest.

Ella Police have launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire.

Local officials have urged residents and visitors to exercise caution in forested areas during the ongoing dry season, as fire risks remain high.
