Meteorology has issued a high-risk marine weather warning, urging fishing and naval communities to avoid sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota over the next 24 hours, due to adverse weather conditions.
According to the latest advisory, these sea regions are expected to be rough to very rough, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 55 to 65 kmph. The department also forecasts swell waves between 2.5 to 3.0 meters, which could cause dangerous surges near coastal areas.
Authorities are advising all small fishing boats and naval vessels in the region to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay tuned to further updates from the Meteorology Department.
The public is also urged to refrain from bathing or engaging in recreational activities near the affected shorelines until conditions improve.
Stay informed through official weather bulletins and follow safety guidelines during this period of potentially hazardous maritime weather.
