The Sri Lanka Army has extended its support in the rescue and ongoing treatment of the wild tusker ‘Bhathiya’, who had been recovering from gunshot wounds sustained around two months ago. The elephant had been seen roaming in the Manigama area in Nikaweratiya during its recovery period.

Recently, the tusker met with another unfortunate accident after falling into a water pit. Acting swiftly on the directives issued by the Ministry of Defence, troops from the 15th Sri Lanka Artillery and the 9th Sri Lanka National Guard were deployed to the location to secure the area and ensure safety until wildlife officials arrived to begin treatment.
