The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has officially announced the appointment of Muhammadu Saripu Abdul Wahid to a vacant seat in Parliament.

This appointment comes following the resignation of former Parliamentarian Muhammadu Saleem Naleem.

The Commission confirmed that the process was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Article 99A of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Section 64(5) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981.

The newly appointed MP is expected to assume duties in the coming days and represent the same political party and electoral district as his predecessor, in keeping with legal and procedural requirements.

Further details regarding the official swearing-in ceremony are expected to be released by the Parliamentary Secretariat shortly.
