
Fishing and naval communities are urged to remain vigilant

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for today, warning of multiple spells of showers and fairly strong winds across several regions of the island.
Showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts. Meanwhile, Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may experience isolated showers or thundershowers in the afternoon or night.
Winds are forecast to be fairly strong at times, with speeds ranging between 30-40 kmph, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western provinces, as well as the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public is strongly advised to take necessary safety measures to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning, especially during thundershowers.

Wave heights are projected to rise to 2.0 – 2.5 meters in seas off the coast from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Fishing and naval communities are urged to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into these rough sea areas if possible.
