Bangladesh ended Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lanka on a shaky note, posting 220 runs for the loss of eight wickets after electing to bat first. The match, part of the two-Test series, saw Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opt to bat after winning the toss, hoping to take early advantage of the pitch.

Despite some promising starts, the Bangladeshi batting order failed to capitalize. Opener Shadman Islam top-scored with 46, while experienced campaigners Mushfiqur Rahim (35) and Litton Das (34) provided some resistance in the middle order. Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a useful 31 lower down the order, but the team failed to build any significant partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance. Both Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando claimed two wickets apiece, maintaining pressure throughout the day. Making his Test debut, Sonal Dinusha impressed immediately by also picking up two key wickets, marking a memorable start to his international red-ball career. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kasun Rajitha chipped in with a wicket each to keep Bangladesh in check.

With only two wickets remaining, Bangladesh will be looking to stretch their total as far as possible on Day 2. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will aim to wrap up the innings quickly and gain control early in their first innings.
