NTC Approves 2.5% Bus Fare Reduction Effective from July 1

This decision follows a meeting held earlier today between the Ministry of Transport and representatives from various bus associations, where the government had initially proposed a 2% fare reduction. However, after further deliberation, the NTC confirmed a 2.5% reduction in the existing fare structure.
According to the NTC, fares for the first and second stages of travel will remain unchanged, with the reduction applying only to distances beyond the second stage.
Despite the official announcement, bus associations have strongly opposed the proposed fare cut, citing operational cost concerns. Representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the government's move, emphasizing the financial strain already faced by private bus operators.
The fare revision comes as part of the annual review process conducted by transport authorities, intended to align fares with current economic conditions, fuel prices, and public affordability.
