NPP Secures Control of 192 Local Government Bodies Across Sri Lanka

The party has gained outright majorities in 151 councils, while establishing control in 40 others through successful voting processes. Additionally, despite not winning a majority in the Kalpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, the NPP has assumed administrative control, bringing its total to 192 councils.
The NPP now governs several key urban local authorities, including the municipal councils of Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Kurunegala, Puttalam, and Nuwara Eliya. In certain Pradeshiya Sabhas such as Agarapathana, Kotagala, and Nuwara Eliya, chairmanships remain with the Ceylon Workers’ Congress, while the NPP holds deputy chair positions.
Other political parties currently control 53 councils. Administrative processes have been disrupted in four institutions, with sessions in Seethawakapura and Mawatagama suspended due to disturbances during secret ballots. The Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha's inaugural session has been postponed due to internal issues.
By June 20, administration had been established in 245 of the 339 local government bodies.
