Winds are forecast to be fairly strong, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at times, particularly in: Western slopes of the Central Hills Northern, North-central, Southern, and North-western provinces

Today, several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts. Meanwhile, Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may experience showers or thundershowers in a few places during the afternoon or night.

Trincomalee District

The public is strongly advised to take precautions against possible hazards from temporary localized strong winds and lightning, especially during thundershowers.

Rainfall: Scattered showers are expected in sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Wind Conditions:

Winds will be south-westerly, with speeds of 30-40 kmph generally.

Wind speeds may reach up to:

50-60 kmph from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

45-50 kmph from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.

Sea Conditions:

Sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.

Wave Heights: Waves are expected to rise to 2.0 – 2.5 meters in sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota (note: this does not apply to the land area).

Warning for Fishermen and Naval Personnel: Those engaged in maritime activities are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution due to potentially hazardous sea conditions and strong winds
