The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast indicating intermittent showers and strong winds across several parts of the island for Saturday, 21 June 2025.

Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts, will experience showers at times.

Several spells of rain are expected in the North-western province and the Matale district.

Afternoon or evening thundershowers are likely in parts of Uva province, as well as the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Strong south-westerly winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, Southern, and North-western provinces, including Trincomalee.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures against localized strong winds and lightning hazards during thundershowers.

Sea Conditions (Next 24 Hours):

Showers will affect sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will remain south-westerly with average speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Gusts up to 50–55 kmph are expected off the coast from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Wind speeds may rise to 45 kmph in other sea areas, including those from Colombo to Matara and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee.

Rough seas are likely off the coast from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai and Matara to Pottuvil.

Fairly rough seas are expected from Chilaw to Matara and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee.

Fisherfolk and coastal communities are urged to remain cautious and avoid venturing into rough sea areas.
