UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk to Visit Sri Lanka

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from June 23 to 26, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism announced today.

This marks the first visit by a UN Human Rights Chief to the island nation since February 2016. During his stay, 

Türk is expected to meet with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, and other senior government officials.

He will also engage with religious leaders, civil society representatives, members of the diplomatic community, and the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.
