The National Dengue Control Unit is set to launch a National Mosquito Control Week from June 30 to July 5 across 16 districts in a bid to curb the spread of dengue, which is on the rise due to ongoing Southwest monsoon rains.
According to Community Health Specialist Dr. Prashila Samaraweera, the initiative comes in response to increased mosquito density triggered by the prevailing weather conditions.
Over 26,000 dengue cases have been reported nationwide so far this year, with 45% of them emerging from the Western Province. Tragically, one child fatality has been recorded.
Health authorities urge the public to cooperate with mosquito control activities and maintain clean surroundings to prevent further spread.
