The Department of Meteorology warns that adverse weather conditions are expected to continue around the island during the next 24 hours. Showers are likely at several locations in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota, via Colombo and Galle.
SEA AREAS AROUND SRI LANKA – WEATHER AND MARINE WARNING
Winds & Sea Conditions:
South-westerly winds will prevail across all sea areas.
Wind speeds:
35–45 kmph, increasing up to 60–70 kmph at times in sea areas from Puttalam to Mullaittivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.
30–40 kmph in other sea areas, with gusts up to 50–55 kmph off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, and also from Mullaitivu to Vakarai via Trincomalee.
Sea State:
Sea areas from Puttalam to Mullaittivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai will be very rough at times.
Naval and fishing communities are advised NOT to venture into these waters until further notice.
Sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, and from Mullaitivu to Vakarai via Trincomalee will be rough at times.
Wave heights may rise to 2.0–2.5 meters from Mannar to Matara (via Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle).
Fishermen and naval personnel are advised to exercise extreme caution.
ISLANDWIDE WEATHER OUTLOOK:
Showers are expected across the following provinces:
Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-Western provinces.
Fairly heavy rainfall (above 50 mm) is likely in parts of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.
A few showers are also possible in the Northern province and Anuradhapura district.

Western slopes of the Central Hills
Northern, North-Central, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-Western provinces
Trincomalee district
