World blood donor appreciation ceremony was held at Temple Trees

The World Blood Donor Appreciation Ceremony was held today (14) at Temple Trees, with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya attending as the Chief Guest. The event is held annually on June 14th to mark World Blood Donor Day.

The ceremony was organized by the National Blood Transfusion Service of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media to honor voluntary blood donors and blood camp organizers.

Around 3,000 blood donors and camp organizers participated in the event. In addition, the Ministry presented mementos and certificates to nearly 4,000 voluntary blood donors and organizers from across the country.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Secretary to the Ministry Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director of the National Blood Transfusion Service Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe, along with other health officials and blood donors.
