Trial Date Set for Keheliya and Jayampathi over alleged misuse of state funds

The decision was made by High Court Judge Sujeewa Nissanka following a hearing today, during which both the prosecution and the defense presented their arguments.
The two are charged under the Bribery Act in connection with alleged misuse of state resources. According to the indictment, the case centers on events that occurred in 2012, when Rambukwella was serving as Minister.
He is accused of exceeding his monthly mobile phone usage limit legally capped at Rs. 44,000 and arranging for the State Printing Corporation to settle an excess bill amounting to over Rs. 240,000.
Prosecutors allege that this constituted an abuse of public funds and a violation of anti-corruption laws. Both Rambukwella and Heenkenda have denied the allegations.
The case is expected to attract significant public attention, given its implications for government accountability and transparency in the use of state resources.
