The Department of Meteorology has forecast intermittent showers today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-western provinces. Heavy rainfall around 100 mm is likely in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, Matara, and Puttalam.
Several spells of showers are also expected in the Northern Province and Anuradhapura District.
Strong winds (50-60 kmph) can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Southern provinces, and Trincomalee District. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to prevent damages from these strong winds.
Sea Conditions: Showers will occur in the sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds in some areas could reach up to 60-70 kmph, especially from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The maximum temperature 36.0 degrees of Celsius on 13-06-2025 were reported from Pothuvil meteorological station.
Advisory: The seas in these regions will be very rough, and fishing and naval communities are strongly advised not to venture out until further notice. Wave heights may rise to 2.5 – 3.0 meters in offshore areas from Mannar to Pottuvil.
