This decision has been made by K.M.H.S.K. Jayalath, the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry in the North Central Province.

The reason for the suspension is an allegation that he made a false statement to a television channel regarding an incident related to the tendering and sale of several vehicles in the North Central Province.

These allegations and the suspension have been formally communicated to Mr. Priyantha Fernando in a letter dated June 6, 2025, sent by the Provincial Secretary.

Mr. Fernando is a teacher at St. Joseph's College in the Anuradhapura Education Zone. While he had been granted a leave of absence from February 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, to engage in trade union activities, the letter accuses him of acting beyond that scope by introducing himself as the convener of the organization "Api Purawesiyo" ("We the Citizens") and making a false statement to a television channel on May 30.
