Prisons commissioner resigns amid pardon controversy

Prisons Commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake has resigned following a political storm over the Vesak Poya day release of convicted fraudster W.H. Athula Tillekeratne from Anuradhapura Prison.
His resignation comes shortly after SJB MP Ajith P. Perera accused President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of misusing presidential pardon powers.
Mr.Jagath Weerasinghe has been appointed as the new Media Spokesperson for the Department of Prisons.
