Red Alert Issued for Naval and Fishing Communities

The advisory, which is valid until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, specifically cautions those operating in sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

According to the Department, these regions will experience very rough seas with strong wind gusts ranging from 60 to 70 kmph.

Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice. The public is also urged to remain alert to future forecasts and updates issued by the Department of Meteorology.
