The Department of Meteorology has issued a 'Red' warning for strong winds and rough seas due to the active southwest monsoon conditions. The affected sea areas include:

Chilaw to Kankesanthurai, via Puttalam and Mannar. Galle to Pottuvil, via Hambantota

The warning indicates that these areas will experience rough seas with strong wind gusts reaching up to 60–70 km/h.  The naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.

Additionally, they are urged to remain vigilant and stay updated with future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.

The active southwest monsoon is expected to continue influencing the weather conditions, leading to periods of rain and occasional strong winds across the island.

Residents and maritime communities are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period.
