IMF’s Gita Gopinath to Visit Sri Lanka on June 15–16

This marks a historic moment in Sri Lanka's economic and diplomatic landscape, as it is the first time in 20 years that a serving IMF FDMD will visit the country. The last visit by an IMF official of this rank occurred in 2005.
"The visit is a significant development in Sri Lanka’s ongoing engagement with the IMF and reflects the strengthening relationship between the two institutions," the CBSL noted in its statement.
Gopinath’s visit comes at a pivotal time, as Sri Lanka continues to navigate economic recovery and reform following a period of financial crisis. During her stay, Gopinath is expected to meet with senior government officials, CBSL representatives, and other key stakeholders to discuss the country’s progress under the IMF-supported program and explore avenues for continued support.
Analysts view the visit as a strong signal of the IMF’s confidence in Sri Lanka’s reform efforts and commitment to economic stabilization.
