Today is Poson full moon Poya day

The day celebrates the arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thero at Mihintale and his profound encounter with King Devanampiyatissa, a moment that forever transformed the island's religious and cultural landscape.
Accompanied by five Arahats and a lay follower, Arahat Mahinda Thero’s arrival heralded the beginning of the Buddhist era in Sri Lanka. Their pivotal conversation with the king—centered around a simple mango tree demonstrated deep philosophical insight using Catuskoti (fourfold logic), a key concept in Buddhist reasoning. This dialogue tested the king’s wisdom and symbolized the nuanced teachings of the Buddha, highlighting impermanence, non-duality, and interconnectedness.
Following this meaningful exchange, King Tissa embraced the Dhamma, taking refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha. This marked the formal establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and laid the foundation for the island’s enduring spiritual and ethical traditions.
Today, Sri Lankans observe Poson Poya with religious observances, almsgiving, and pilgrimages to sacred sites such as Mihintale. As the nation reflects on its deep-rooted Buddhist heritage, Poson remains a beacon of compassion, wisdom, and unity, continuing to inspire generations with the timeless teachings of the Buddha
