National Poson week commence today

The weeklong observance from June 7th to 13th is centered around the sacred sites of Anuradhapura, Thanthirimale, and Mihintale, where a range of religious activities and spiritual programs have been organized.
These events commemorate the historic arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thero (Anubudu Mihindu Maharahathan Wahanse), who brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka over two millennia ago.
In a special message to the public, Atamasthanadhipathi Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thero urged devotees and pilgrims to uphold the sanctity of Anuradhapura during this period.
He appealed to all visitors to refrain from turning the sacred city into a showground and instead to approach the week’s observances with discipline and reverence.
“This is a time for reflection, spiritual renewal, and paying homage to the teachings of the Buddha and the great mission of Arahat Mahinda Thero,” said the Nayaka Thero. “Let us act with respect, not only in rituals but also in conduct, preserving the sacred atmosphere of these hallowed sites.”
Authorities and religious organizations have coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of alms-givings (dansalas), sil campaigns, Dhamma sermons, and other meritorious activities throughout the week.
With large crowds expected to visit the key pilgrimage sites, special measures have also been taken to maintain order, cleanliness, and spiritual decorum in all areas involved in the celebrations.
