The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for today, June 6, 2025, warning of multiple spells of showers, thundershowers, and strong winds across several parts of the island, as well as over the surrounding sea areas.
Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara, will experience several spells of showers throughout the day.
Uva and Eastern provinces, and the Vavuniya and Mullaittivu districts, may experience isolated showers or thundershowers, particularly during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds reaching 30-40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Southern Province.
The public is advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning, especially during thundershowers, to prevent damage and ensure safety.

Sea areas around Sri Lanka will also be affected by unstable weather:
Light showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Thundershowers may occur in other surrounding sea areas, particularly during the afternoon or night.
Wind Conditions:
Winds will be south-westerly, ranging from 30–40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph in the sea areas stretching from:
Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar
Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota
Wind speeds of 20–30 kmph are expected elsewhere, with occasional gusts up to 45 kmph in areas from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Sea Conditions:
Seas off Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.
Seas from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu will be fairly rough.
Note: Mariners and fishermen are advised to exercise extreme caution as temporary strong winds and very rough seas are likely during thundershowers.
