
Showers and strong winds expected across parts of Sri Lanka

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Activity
Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, along with the districts of Galle and Matara, can expect intermittent spells of showers throughout the day.
Isolated showers or thundershowers are also likely in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa district, particularly during the afternoon or night hours.
Wind Conditions and Safety Advisory
Fairly strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are expected at times, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills, and across the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, including Trincomalee district.
The public is advised to exercise caution, especially during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may pose risks. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from such conditions.
Marine Weather Forecast
Sea conditions are expected to be rough at times in specific regions:
Rainfall at Sea: Showers will occur off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Other sea areas are expected to experience mainly fair weather.
Wind Speeds:
South-westerly winds will dominate.
Wind speeds will range from 30–40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
In other sea areas, winds will be around 20–30 kmph, occasionally increasing to 45 kmph between Chilaw and Galle via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Sea Conditions:
The sea will be rough at times in areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Fairly rough seas are expected from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Temporary strong gusts and very rough sea conditions may occur during thundershowers.
