President speaks to the officials of the General Treasury

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake mentioned this during the discussion with the officers of the General Treasury at the Ministry of Finance today (04).

Countries like China, Korea and Vietnam have undergone a massive economic transformation as a result of a collective effort engaged for ages with the public, the president said here.

The President pointed out here that a social responsibility has been assigned to all as individuals in leading the country towards development, and that goals can be achieved through making it a collective effort.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who showed that only his opinion as a political authority is not loading on the officers, noted that he is taking decisions from the formal discussions conducted between officers and the political authority. The president also reminded here how the projects executed in Sri Lanka were unsuccessful due to some atonomic political interventions.

The President here also advised the General Treasury Officers to take immediate steps to make structural changes in relevant institutions based on government basic policies.

Here the President pays attention from the Ministry of Finance officials about the International Finance Fund's comprehensive loan facility program that could impact the economy of Sri Lanka, new taxes imposed from the US, as well as the GSP+ relief program for 2027

Dr. Anil Jayanta Fernando, Deputy Minister of Labour and Economic Development, Deputy Minister of Finance and Methods, Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary of Finance Ministry Mahinda Siriwardhana and a group of senior officials of the General Treasury gathered at the event.

President Anurakumara Disanayaka emphasized that not only a country can develop by achieving economic successes, as well as three pillars of social development and political culture should be built at the same time.

President Anurakumara Disanayaka informed this during a discussion with Taisery Officers today (04) at Finance Ministry.

The president said that countries like China, Korea and Vietnam have made major changes to the economy as a result of a joint effort made with the public over the period.

The President pointed out that some responsibilities have been given as individuals in leading a country towards development and at the same time everyone should work together to achieve the goals.

President Anurakumara Dissanayake pointed out that he will not only impose his opinion on officers as political authority, also said that necessary decisions will be taken through proper discussions between officers with expert knowledge and political authority.

The President also remembered the way the projects initiated in Sri Lanka failed in the past due to some spontaneous political interventions.

The president here appointed the skillful officers to maintain strategic importance sectors under the government and taking immediate action to make structural changes in institutions based on government basic policies.

The President brought attention of the Finance Ministry officials on the extended loan facility plan of the International Currency Fund that could impact Sri Lanka's economy, as well as new taxes imposed by the US, GSP+ offer for 2027.

Minister of Industries and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Anil Jayanda Fernando, Deputy Minister of Finance, Planning, Harshana Suryaperuma, Secretary of Finance Ministry Mahinda Sirivardhana and many senior officers of Taisery attended the event.
