Maldives Offers 100,000 job opportunities for Sri Lankans

The announcement was made by the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad, during an official meeting with Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on enhancing cooperation in the fields of employment and tourism between the two countries. High Commissioner Imad revealed that around 30,000 Sri Lankans are currently employed across various sectors in the Maldives, contributing to both nations’ economies.
Highlighting the demand for skilled and professional labor, the High Commissioner assured that the Maldivian government is committed to expanding opportunities for Sri Lankans, particularly in the skilled job categories. He also emphasized the Maldives' intention to support Sri Lanka in creating pathways for greater overseas employment.
In addition, Commissioner Imad addressed concerns about financial remittances, assuring Minister Herath that proactive steps are already underway to resolve the challenges faced by Sri Lankan workers in sending money back home.
The discussions signal a deepening of bilateral cooperation, especially in labor and economic relations, at a time when overseas employment is a key priority for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery strategy.
