The Ambassador of Palestine to Sri Lanka, Ihab Khalil, met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, for discussions focused on the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Sri Lanka’s continued solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Ambassador Khalil expressed his deep appreciation for Sri Lanka’s consistent support at both regional and international platforms.

A significant point of discussion was Sri Lanka’s recent donation of US$1 million to the Gaza Children’s Fund through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Ambassador Khalil thanked the Government of Sri Lanka for the generous contribution, which he described as a vital gesture of compassion and international solidarity in the face of ongoing challenges in Gaza.

Minister Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian people and reiterated the country’s call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict based on international law and respect for human rights.

The two officials also discussed avenues to further strengthen bilateral relations, including cooperation in education, tourism, and cultural exchange.

The meeting comes amid heightened international concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a lasting peace in the region.
