The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced the appointment of Professor K.T.M. Udayanga Hemapala as its new Chairman, following the resignation of Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya.

Prof. Hemapala brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Secretary to the Ministry of Energy. He is also a distinguished academic, formerly holding the position of Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.

The appointment comes at a critical time for Sri Lanka’s energy sector, which is undergoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. Prof. Hemapala’s leadership is expected to play a key role in steering the CEB through this transformative period.

Industry experts have welcomed the move, citing Prof. Hemapala’s technical expertise and policy experience as vital assets for the CEB’s future development.
