Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and his son Ramith Rambukwella were today granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in connection with a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued the bail order after hearing submissions from both the Bribery Commission and the legal representatives of the two suspects.
The case pertains to allegations that Keheliya Rambukwella, during his tenure as a Cabinet Minister, caused a financial loss of over Rs. 8 million to the state. CIABOC alleges that this loss was incurred through the unlawful appointment of fifteen individuals to his ministerial staff, with their salaries and allowances being drawn from public funds.
Both Keheliya and Ramith Rambukwella were present in court during the proceedings. The next hearing date has been scheduled, while the suspects remain out on bail under conditions imposed by the court.
