President vows to curb public spending and safeguard taxpayer funds

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced a series of measures aimed at reducing government expenditure under the President’s budget, reaffirming his commitment to protect public funds and ensure financial accountability.

Speaking at the inauguration of National Tax Week held at the Presidential Secretariat, President Dissanayake emphasized that every rupee collected from taxpayers must be utilized responsibly and transparently.

“This marks the first significant step towards minimizing the misuse of public money,” the President stated, pledging to set a new standard in fiscal discipline and transparency within the government.

A key element of the President’s reform agenda includes the digitalization of public services. According to Dissanayake, this initiative will not only increase operational efficiency but also help dismantle what he called the “black mechanism” entrenched within the state system.

Highlighting the need for institutional integrity, he stressed the importance of establishing a governance framework where the rule of law prevails and all citizens are held equally accountable, regardless of status or position.

President Dissanayake’s remarks come amid broader efforts to rebuild public trust and create a culture of accountability in Sri Lanka’s public administration.
