The Road Development Authority (RDA) has issued a safety advisory for motorists using expressways, urging heightened caution due to ongoing rainy weather conditions across the country.
Deputy Director General of Expressway Operations, Maintenance & Management, R.A.D. Kahatapitiya, advised drivers to reduce their speed and maintain a limit of around 60 kilometers per hour when traveling in wet conditions.
"Heavy rainfall significantly reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents. We strongly recommend that all drivers slow down and remain vigilant while on the expressways," Kahatapitiya said.
The RDA also reminded motorists to ensure that their vehicle lights and wipers are functioning properly and to avoid sudden braking or lane changes during inclement weather.
Authorities continue to monitor road conditions and have deployed additional safety and emergency response teams along key expressway routes.
