A total of 10,270 individuals from 2,757 families have been impacted by the severe weather conditions currently affecting several parts of the country, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) reported today.

According to the DMC, residents in 140 Divisional Secretariat (DS) divisions across 14 districts have been affected by continuous heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The adverse weather has prompted authorities to open the sluice gates of multiple reservoirs to prevent potential overflow and ensure public safety.

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has also extended its Level-1 Landslide Early Warning for selected areas in the districts of Galle, Kegalle, Kandy, and Ratnapura. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially in landslide-prone zones.

Emergency response teams have been mobilized, and relief measures are currently underway to assist affected families.

Authorities urge the public to follow official updates and heed safety warnings as inclement weather is expected to continue in the coming days.
