
Special discussion held related to the National Media Policy

Government taking steps to draft a National Media Policy that will improve the professionalism of media organizations, journalists, and content creators. This policy aims to create a safe and responsible environment where everyone can work for the greater good.
At the discussion, participants talked about the changes needed in the current draft, new ideas to be included, the importance of making the policy available in all three languages, and resolving any conflicts. They also discussed the role and goals of the Steering Committee, along with the views shared by media organizations.
Several members of the National Media Policy Committee, including the Head of the Mass Communication Department at the University of Kelaniya, Wijayananda Rupasinghe, and senior journalist and science writer Nalaka Gunawardena, shared their thoughts. They also explained the importance of a national media policy, how it will benefit the country, and the process we are following.
The event was attended by Media minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, committee members, heads of media institutions, journalists from public and private media, independent journalists, and university lecturers from media departments.
