The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has issued continued landslide early warnings for several Divisional Secretariats in the districts of Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, and Kegalle as persistent heavy rains increase the risk of slope failures and ground instability.

Pradeep Kodippili, Director of the DMC, emphasized the seriousness of the situation and urged residents in high-risk areas to remain on high alert over the next 24 hours.

He highlighted the importance of identifying early signs of potential landslides, which can include unusual sounds such as cracks or rumbling, sudden appearance of water springs, and tilting of trees or electric poles.

"People should also watch for structural changes in their homes and buildings, including cracks in walls or floors, as these may indicate shifting ground beneath them," Kodippili stated.

Emergency teams remain on standby, and the public is advised to closely follow weather alerts and updates from local authorities. The DMC has also advised residents in vulnerable regions to prepare for possible evacuation if conditions worsen.

Heavy rainfall across several parts of the country has already caused localized flooding and minor earth slips, further reinforcing the need for caution. The Meteorology Department forecasts continued rain over the weekend.
