Multi-Sectoral Mechanism to protect children – Minister Saroja Paulraj

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, Minister Paulraj emphasized the urgent need for an integrated and collaborative approach to address the growing concerns surrounding child protection in Sri Lanka.
“The protection of our children cannot be handled by a single institution. We need a coordinated effort that brings together multiple sectors, including education, health, justice, and law enforcement,” she said.
The proposed mechanism will involve key stakeholders from government agencies, civil society organizations, and child protection services to ensure a comprehensive and sustained response. The initiative also aims to strengthen existing policies, improve reporting systems, and provide better support services for victims of abuse.
Minister Paulraj underscored the importance of community awareness and participation in safeguarding children's rights and welfare. “Creating a safe environment for children requires the active engagement of families, communities, and institutions. We must all work together to break the cycle of violence and ensure every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment,” she added.
